Real ID ??

DHS ( Department of Homeland Security [oxymoron?] ) is working with industry to develop standards for states to follow regarding Driver Licenses and State ID cards. Some ( myself included ) fear this will lead to a National ID card.

Some of the proposals include a requirement to encode a digital image of your birth certificate along with your social security number and many other vital and personal pieces of information.  Imagine the bonanza this would be to your local identity theft crook?  

The typical scare tactic used by DHS and others is always terrorism. I guess they need something to scare us ignorant citizens into going along with the gradual destruction of our Civil Rights and rights to personal privacy.

Remember...this National ID results in a National Database of every Citizen's personal information. Who gets access? What does the government plan to do about protecting the data and what will they do for you and me when something goes wrong? Will they compensate us for any and all financial loss that results from identity theft? Will they grant us each a new "identity" in that event?

Do you TRUST your government ?  Do they ever call or write YOU to ask what you think about these initiatives? ...or do they just call their industry friends for their opinions on how to do it...not asking if it should be done at all. Of course industry will go along because it means money in their pockets.

Tell your congressman to say no to any National ID system or single national database that may contain too much personal information about US Citizens.
