Drug Policies, Illegal or Legal are designed to keep money in the
hands of the already rich.

Drug Rip Off:  This is true, I needed a prescription suppository and went to Walgreens. For 12, the price was almost $50, Generic version about $20. I checked online. The exact same item sold to a vet for your dog ( many of the same medicines are also prescribed by veterinarians ) cost them wholesale $1.25 for the same box of 12.  I could not find a wholesale cost to pharmacies ( who also sell prescriptions for your pets ) but I sure don't expect they pay any more than the vet does. Many drugs are marked up thousands of times over their cost. The new Medicaid prescription drug act actually forbids Medicaid from bargaining for lower prices...requiring them ( you ) to pay whatever the drug company wants to charge, without question.

De-Criminalize Recreational Drugs: No, I don't do drugs nor have I ever smoked tobacco. But we seem to be incapable as a nation to remember was prohibition which led to the creation of powerful crime organizations. These organizations exist today because drugs are illegal.  Some people will use drugs regardless of their legality, hence the huge profits being funneled to places like Colombia & the Middle East where they fund terrorism. These are tax-free profits ! Worse, the "war on drugs" which is pretty ineffective at best, costs taxpayers billions ( $60-$70 billion a year ) and shows little return for the money.  We have become the world's largest incarcerator of our citizens primarily due to really BAD drug laws designed to lock up non-violent, first time drug abusers for many years. The real pushers remain free of course.  Politicians use the "anti-drug" band wagon to try to buy votes from uneducated voters. They succeed primarily because they don't or won't educate the American People about the truth of the results of the policies.  I don't advocate the use of these drugs, but when you look at the real result of our "drug war" and its effect on society, the cost ( financial and human)  is not justified. I think that those who would abuse the drugs anyway pay a tax on them. We eliminate BILLION$ of YOUR tax dollars spent trying to stop the abuse,. We could better serve the users with programs and treatment paid for with those taxes and savings. Putting them in jail is not "saving" them. The BILLION$ of illegal profits would stop flowing to other countries as well. Blowing all that money and further destroying the lives of our citizens just to appear "tough on crime" is just a political dirty trick with no benefit and high cost for you and me. Pushers would go away because they depend upon an illegal trade to exist...they would leave your kids alone !

Ask yourself what one of the MOST addictive drugs in the world is today....nicotine. Hmmmm who are some of the biggest contributors to political campaigns today?  Big tobacco companies. Tobacco kills more Americans every year than every other drug combined including the killings that result from the illegal activities.  But that's ok because they have paid Congress enough protection money, right?
